10 Rules for Healthy Hair


Healthy hair means gorgeous hair–everyone knows that. The problem is, with all the hair products and styling tools (not to mention other factors like diet or the environment) we women have to use every day, it’s pretty hard to keep it in tip-top shape.

Luckily, there are a few rules you can follow to ensure that your crowning glory remains soft, shiny, and super healthy!

1. Don’t wash your hair more than three times a week.

Only shampoo your hair three times a week or every other day–too much washing dries your hair and scalp out.

2. Use a clarifying shampoo every few weeks.

Washing with a clarifying shampoo gets rid of all the build-up in your hair and on your scalp.

3. Deep condition your hair 2-4 times a month.

Give your tresses a much-needed moisture boost by doing a deep condition two to four times a month. Because who doesn’t want soft, bouncy hair, right?

4. Try to use cold water when washing your hair.

End your shower with cold water–it seals the hair follicles and makes your hair look shinier!

5. Don’t rub your hair with a towel when drying your hair.

Rubbing causes frizz. Instead, just gently squeeze the moisture out of your hair with your towel, or loosely wrap your hair in a towel to get rid of excess water.

6. Never brush wet hair–use a wide-toothed comb.

Wet hair is more prone to breakage, so always use a wide-toothed comb to untangle your locks right after showering.

7. Regularly trim your ends.

Leaving those split ends unchecked can cause more damage (the split can travel upwards and can cause the strand to break off) to your hair, so always get a regular trim to keep those ends neat.

8. Always use a heat protectant spray before using any hot styling tools.

All that heat can fry your hair, so protect your locks with a heat protectant spray before using those tools!

9. If you went overboard with the products, wash your hair before going to bed.

Imagine all that hair product sitting on your scalp all night. Yuck! Make sure to wash your hair thoroughly before you sleep to remove all the product, because they can clog your pores and possibly cause dandruff!

10. Give your hair a break! 

If you love wearing your hair in a tight ponytail all the time or using a curling iron every day, you’re putting your hair under constant stress. You should give your crowning glory a break and just let it flow freely–no products, no styling tools, no anything. Just keep it au naturel!
