How to Make Workouts More Interesting: 10 Easy Tips
Working out can be a real chore sometimes–especially if you get bored easily. And if you get bored, you’ll eventually end up doing half-hearted workouts without the same energy and determination as before… or you’ll stop working out altogether.
You don’t want that, do you?
If you want to learn how to make workouts more interesting, here are a few tips:
1. Wear your best workout clothes.
When we go to the gym, we often choose to wear our grungiest clothes. After all, if you’re just going to sweat buckets, why bother trying to look nice, right? But more often than not, wearing something nice can actually give people a big self-confidence boost–and also, when you look good, you feel good.
2. Make friends!
Working out is more fun when you’re with friends–this goes without saying. If you don’t have a regular workout buddy to keep you company, make some friends! Chat up some girls in your pilates class, or ask that cute guy at the gym to spot you.
3. Download a good fitness app.
There are a lot of fitness apps out there that help people plan and track their workouts–in addition to many other cool features. Find one that you like… and use it!
4. Change it up.
To keep things from getting boring, try something new every once in a while. Skip the treadmill and try that trendy trampoline dance class… or maybe even hot yoga!
5. Create a personalized playlist.
Music plays a big part in making workouts more interesting. But don’t listen to just anything–make yourself a personalized playlist of all your favorite songs. You could also go on Spotify and find the perfect workout playlist (they have tons of playlists for every mood and every activity) that fits your needs.
6. Listen to an audiobook.
Catch up on your reading by listening to an audiobook instead of your usual music playlist. You’ll probably become so engrossed, you might even forget that you’ve been running on the treadmill for longer than usual!
7. Take a gym selfie… or two.
I know what you’re thinking. Gym selfies are the worst–especially when said selfie features flawless abs and a tight butt. But hear me out. There’s just something about documenting and sharing an experience (like when you take a photo of your meal at that new restaurant) with others that make people feel more accomplished. Just try to keep it from being too obnoxious!
8. Set different goals for yourself every time.
Give yourself something different to strive for with every workout session. Having a goal in mind–a different goal per day, of course–will keep things interesting because you will always be challenging yourself.
9. Reward yourself.
Reward yourself with something after every workout. But only when you are able to achieve your goal for the day. Something that will make you feel really good, like getting a nice massage or splurging on a new pair of gym shoes.
10. Take it outside.
Sometimes, your surroundings can make all the difference. When working out at the gym gets too boring for you, take it outside. Exercise at the park or at the beach. It doesn’t even matter where, as long as it’s outdoors and conducive to your needs. Get creative!
