10 Foods That Speed Up Your Metabolism

Sometimes, dieting and working out isn’t enough. If you’re looking to slim down, you have to make sure your body’s metabolism is in high gear…

Which is where these foods come in:

1. Chili peppers

Widely known to possess terrific metabolism-boosting properties, chili peppers contain a compound called capsaicin, which raises the body’s temperature and pushes it to burn calories faster.

2. Berries

Whether you snack on blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries, it doesn’t matter–you’ll still boost your metabolism. Berries are high in fiber, which is indigestible. This means your body works extra hard to try to digest it, helping you burn more calories in the process.

3. Green tea

Tea contains caffeine, which raises the heart rate and makes the body burn calories faster. Green tea is also particularly beneficial in weight loss as it helps burn stubborn belly fat thanks to catechins, one of its major components.

4. Oatmeal

Again, fiber. That magical, metabolism-boosting component in most healthy foods.

5. Garlic

Many of us tend to stay away from garlic due to the bad breath aftermath of eating them, but its many health benefits should change your mind. Not only is garlic full of nutrients that help boost the immune system and fight aging and disease, it also helps burn calories and reduce unhealthy fats in the body.

7. Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are rich in fiber, which we already know is great for increasing the metabolism. They also reduce insulin levels, which helps the body digest food faster.

8. Almonds

Though high in calories (almonds are high in healthy fats), almonds contain plenty of essential fatty acids that help boost the metabolism as well.

9. Chicken and other lean proteins

Eat lots of chicken–preferably skinless chicken breasts for lots of healthy white meat–and other foods rich in lean protein because the body burns more calories when digesting it, which in turn helps rev up the metabolism.

10. Yogurt

Yogurt is a great source of calcium and protein, with the latter being especially beneficial for weight loss. It also helps regulate the digestive tract and reduce the amount of fat absorbed thanks to its “healthy” bacteria.
